South Surf Road Residence

South Surf Road, Silver Beach, New Jersey, 2008 - 2010

This new 3800 square foot private residence is located on a sandy oceanfront site along one of New Jersey's barrier islands.  The house is used primarily as a vacation residence for a family that has spent their past summers along the Jersey shore.  Drawing inspiration from the classic Shingle Style beach houses of the Northeast as well as borrowing elements from the architecture of communities such as Seaside and Rosemary Beach, Florida, the aesthetic of this house is an eclectic mix of various styles that have been reinterpreted for contemporary living. The utilitarian functions of the plan such as mechanical, laundry, and storage have been arranged along the north wall, leaving the south and east facing facades open to the ocean views.  This house was built prior to Hurricane Sandy and survived with no damage despite being located on the oceanfront.
