Miller-Bates House

Nosara, Guanacaste, Costa Rica, 2006

Located in the Guanacaste region of northwest Costa Rica, the Miller-Bates House is an 1800 square foot two-family vacation residence that sits atop a densely wooded site overlooking the Pacific Ocean. With arched stucco clad exterior walls, terracotta tile roofing, and an open gallery with exposed mahogany roof framing, the architecture responds quite naturally to the local vernacular. The house was designed as two separate living units so that the owners may occupy one level, while the other may be available as a rental.
