About Our Company & Furniture
Design Philosophy After years of developing an idea about architecture and
design that finds inspiration in the everyday, Richard Bubnowski Design has
expanded its efforts to include interior furnishings. During a twenty-three year
career in the field of architecture, our design aesthetic has evolved into a
soft modernism based on traditional materials and methods of construction. This
ideal that has occurred in the buildings we have designed, has now emerged in
the furniture we are designing. In many cases, the furniture line by RBD
compliments and expands the built environments we create. Influenced by the work
of Wright, R.M. Schindler, Greene & Greene, and Stickley, RBD’s work consists of
straightforward, innovative design with firm roots in traditional and early
modern architecture and furniture making. We approach programs and problems with
the belief that the finest solutions are both logical and direct, leading to a
good design. The Company Richard Bubnowski Design – Furniture is a Point Pleasant, New Jersey based company. We believe in making new furniture one piece at a time. Our designs are contemporary, yet the pieces in our collection have strong roots to traditional architectural styles. Through our furniture, we have redefined those traditional styles in a clean, modern way. Whether we are designing an entire home along the coast or a dresser to compliment an interior space, this has become the signature for both our furniture and architecture.From dining tables and chairs, beds, armoires, and dressers, we have developed a large array of designs for our collection. We can make myriad variations on any of these pieces in different wood species, sizes, details, and finishes. We can also generate a new design distinctive to a customer’s needs, spatial constraints, and tastes. A piece in our collection may suit you fine or may spur something unique to your home or office. We design and construct each piece individually with long-lasting value in mind. In fact, we trust that our furniture will essentially increase in value over time. The care we put into a piece of furniture is such that it will improve with age, unlike most products offered today. The Work Shop Not far from our design studio in Point Pleasant, Richard Bubnowski Design teams up with local artisan workshops to produce their designs. Through close collaboration and communication, these carefully selected work shops are responsible for the construction and accurate implementation of RBD’s designs. Talented and artistic furniture-makers measure, cut, plane, and sand, creating each piece of the "Surfers End Collection", one by one. Due to the geometry of the designs in our collection, many of the pieces require dozens of precise mortise-and-tenon joints. We employ only the finest joinery and furniture making techniques available. Some customers may like to stop by to select their woods or observe their pieces being made and all are welcome. Please contact us to set up an appointment. Upholstery Richard Bubnowski Design now offers a selection of the finest quality Robert Allen fabrics for our furniture. Our selection of upholstery fabrics features a variety of colors and textures from traditional patterns and solids to modern stripes and tone-on-tone designs. We will assist you with fabric recommendations, and offer samples before any final upholstery work begins. You can also choose to supply a fabric of your own. We only ask that you supply us with a swatch so we can confirm that it can be successfully applied. If you prefer leather upholstery, we also offer a wide range of textures and colors in the finest grade of natural or full grain aniline dyed Italian leathers from Pacific Hide and Leather Company. All of our leathers are selected for their softness, durability, and overall appearance.
